After the damage from last month’s blizzard was tallied and inspected, the City of Piedmont has asked FEMA for about $76,000 in federal aid to help pay for the labor and equipment costs spent while helping out the community on Christmas Eve.
How much of the requested money will be given to the city to reimburse them for the costs of the damage has yet to be determined.
“We don’t know yet if the city will be entitled to any of the money we’ve asked for,” emergency planning manager Boyd Maser said.  “We’re just waiting on the state and FEMA to determine if we’re eligible for federal funds.”
Maser met with FEMA’s representatives on Wednesday of last week to discuss the possibility of getting federal aid to reimburse the city the costs of Christmas Eve blizzard.
The meeting was to determine what kind of damage the snowstorm did to the town and how much was the city’s responsibility and how much the federal government could repay.
According to Maser, FEMA has specific rates for everything and it puts communities requesting special aid in specific categories based on certain properties such as damage done to the town infrastructure, labor and materials.
